Umrah DIY Guide

Embarking on an Umrah journey is a profound experience that requires thoughtful preparation and guidance. In this comprehensive DIY guide, we’ll walk you through every step to make your Umrah spiritually fulfilling and hassle-free. Let’s start this journey together.

Preparation

Your Umrah journey begins long before you board the plane. Start by arming yourself with knowledge. Find a reliable book or online resources to learn how to perform Umrah. Keep up to date with visa requirements for your country, as they can change. Determine if you’re eligible for a visa on arrival, e-visa, or if you need an agent’s assistance. In general, securing an Umrah visa is a straightforward process. You can also use a Saudi tourist visa for Umrah.

Reservation

Choosing the right flights and accommodations can significantly impact your Umrah experience. For cost-conscious travelers, consider booking your flight during off-peak periods. Use flight comparison websites like Google Flights to find affordable options. We recommend flying into Madinah and departing from Jeddah for convenience.

When booking your hotel, check multiple online platforms, read reviews, and aim to stay close to the Haram. A bonus tip: look for hotels that offer complimentary breakfast to start your day right.

Don’t forget to make arrangements for your visa and consider booking the Haramain train for your travel between Madinah, Makkah, and Jeddah Airport.

Arrival in Saudi (Madinah)

Commencing your Umrah journey in Madinah is a spiritually enriching choice. This is your opportunity to immerse yourself in the holy city of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Don’t miss visiting the Rawdah, where the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his companions, Abubakar and Umar, are buried. The Rawdah is the place between the house of the Prophet and his pulpit, as the Prophet (SAW) said: “Between my house and my pulpit is one of the gardens of Paradise”.

To secure your Rawdah visit, use the Nusuk app. Ensure you have an internet connection to display your booking, as screenshots are not allowed. You can also explore other significant sites like Masjid Qiblatain, Masjid Quds, Mountain Uhud, and more.

Leaving Madinah

As you bid farewell to Madinah, remember that men should be in their white ihram attire. Check online tutorials to ensure a proper and secure ihram tying. For women, modest Muslim clothing is appropriate. Taxis can take you to the train station from your hotel. On the train, you’ll be informed when you reach the Meeqat, where you’ll make your intention for Umrah and enter the state of Ihram. From there, recite the Talbiyah ‘Labbayka Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayka La Shareeka Laka Labbayk. Innal Hamda Wan-ni’mata Laka Wal-Mulk, La Shareeka Lak’ (Here I am at Your service, O Allah, at Your service! You have no partner! I am at Your service! Indeed, all praise and grace belong to You, and so does the supreme authority. You have no partner) and continue your journey to Makkah.

Arrival in Makkah

Upon arriving at the train station, take a taxi or Uber to your hotel or use the free bus to Haram. We recommend heading to your hotel first to freshen up and relax before commencing your Umrah rituals. Stay mindful of activities that could break your state of Ihram. After your break, proceed to Masjid Al Haram, perform Tawaf, and offer two Rakat Nafl prayers. Don’t forget to drink Zamzam water and complete the Sa’i by walking between Safa and Marwa. Remember to make heartfelt dua during Tawaf and Sa’i. Upon completing the Sa’i, both men and women should trim their hair.

With this, your Umrah and Ihram journey comes to a fulfilling conclusion.

Days in Makkah

Make the most of your time in Makkah by dedicating yourself to acts of worship and exploration. Talk to taxi drivers for local insights or inquire with your hotel about arranging tours to religious and historical sites.

Tips

– Carry cash with you, as many local businesses prefer it.

– For a memorable dining experience in Madinah, visit Hadar al Mawt.

– Keep a bag for your shoes and a bottle for collecting Zamzam water while visiting the Masjid.

– If you are interested in eating camel meat; Hashi Basha is the restaurant to go to in both Makkah and Madinah.

Remember, your Umrah journey is a profound spiritual experience. Our guide is designed to help you navigate it smoothly and enrich your connection with the holy sites. Safe travels and may your Umrah be blessed and fulfilling.
